Understanding the Wellness Pyramid, Part Two: Healthcare Choices

Posted in For Patients

Recently, we’ve been looking at different self-care methods that can help you relieve stress, lift your mood, and enjoy a healthier, happier life. And one easy way to visualize the importance of self-care and other health choices is to look at the Wellness Pyramid.

In part one of this post, we looked at the bottom of the pyramid, representing the lifestyle choices that play a fundamental role in your overall health and wellbeing. These include your diet, the amount of exercise you get, rest and stress management, and surrounding yourself with natural things.

The top section of the pyramid is made up of two healthcare-related choices, and it’s this section that we’re going to focus on today. When your lifestyle choices are in balance, these things may support your overall health and reduce the likelihood of getting sick. Remember, no one block of the pyramid can do everything, so it’s important to achieve a healthy balance to gain the full benefits of each.

In today’s post, let’s explore the healthcare choices that make up the top of the Wellness Pyramid. Then, in part three, we’ll explore essential oil recommendations for each part!

Healthcare Choices and Wellness: Proactive Medical Care

At the very top of the pyramid is proactive medical care, which can often go a long way towards preventing future illness. This is all about managing your health as much as possible, and knowing what to do if something does go wrong.

The opposite of proactive medical care is being reactive: only taking measures to improve your health after getting sick. Of course, it’s not always possible to see an illness coming, but it never hurts to take care of yourself.

Do something every day that’s good for your health. That might include eating right, exercising, or taking steps to reduce your stress levels (acupuncture can help with this). When you take small steps every day, it’s easy to build up a routine.

On top of this, try not to miss your regular healthcare check-ups, screenings, and immunizations. And if you do feel unwell, speak to your doctor as soon as possible.

Healthcare Choices and Wellness: Informed Self-Care

The penultimate piece of the pyramid is informed self-care. This means knowing things that you can do at home to support your health, and making sure these things are safe.

There are plenty of safe and relaxing self-care methods that you can try. We find that acupressure massages, especially when combined with essential oils, can be very beneficial for things like stress relief, reducing fatigue, and improving your overall quality of life. You can also easily incorporate essential oils into your life in other ways, such as diffusing them, or adding a few drops to a glass of water.

If you’re not sure where to begin or which self-care methods are right for you, there are plenty of reliable resources you can turn to. We strive to make our On Point Blog one of them, with lots of tips and research from clinical trials to help you make informed choices. In the third and final part of this blog post series, we’ll be exploring some essential oil recommendations that can help you balance each part of the pyramid and improve your overall health and wellbeing, so don’t miss it!

We’re also more than happy to speak to you in person or by webcam to discuss your health goals and tell you a little more about essential oils. There’s no obligation to buy anything, but if you do see something you like, we can help you order it. To book a free, 30 minute appointment with us, click here.
