Understanding the Wellness Pyramid, Part Three: Promoting Wellness with Essential Oils

Posted in For Patients

In this three-part blog series, we’ve explored every part of the dōTERRA Wellness Pyramid. Made up of six blocks, the pyramid can help you visualize how the choices you make impact your overall health and wellbeing. This includes both lifestyle choices, like diet and exercise, and healthcare decisions, like staying proactive about your medical care.

Essential oils and supplements can play a supportive role in various parts of the pyramid, helping you achieve balance. Dr. David K. Hill, dōTERRA’s Chief Medical Officer, shared his daily essential oil routine and recommendations during his talk at the 2017 dōTERRA Convention in September. If you’re not sure how to start incorporating essential oils into your life, this is a great place to start.

Here’s what Dr. Hill recommends.

Eating Right

Your diet makes up the foundation of the Wellness Pyramid, and its importance can’t be overstated.

To support the foundation of your health, Dr. Hill recommends dōTERRA’s Life Long Vitality pack. This is composed of three supplements (xEO Mega, Microplex VMz, and Alpha CRS+) that you can take with each meal to boost your metabolism. Each capsule is full of essential nutrients and antioxidants, helping to promote energy, health, and vitality.

You can also take a probiotic supplement like dōTERRA’s PB Assist+ formula, along with its TerraZyme Digestive Enzyme Complex. Together, these will support your digestion and intestinal health, give your immune system a helping hand, and promote the production of important metabolic enzymes in your body.

Exercise

Whether you love exercise or loathe it, there’s no denying it’s important for your health. To get the most out of every minute on the treadmill and every mile walked, Dr. Hill suggests using the Deep Blue oil and rub.

The Deep Blue blend contains wintergreen, camphor, and peppermint, which help soothe sore muscles after exercise. At the same time, blue tansy and blue chamomile support your normal inflammatory response, and the presence of helichrysum and osmanthus offers tissue support and assists in recovery. The rub is also moisturizing without being greasy, keeping your skin nice and soft.

Rest and Stress Management

There are lots of essential oils you can use to promote restfulness, relieve stress, and help you sleep. In previous posts, we’ve explored why lavender is ideal for this, with its pleasant smell and soothing qualities. It’s great for diffusing before you go to bed to create a relaxing mood.

Additionally, Dr. Hill suggests trying cedarwood, citrus, frankincense, geranium, ylang ylang, and fir oils. Or why not try using dōTERRA’s Serenity oil blend and supplements for a better night’s sleep, along with their Balance oil every morning to help you prepare for whatever the day brings?

Reducing Your Toxic Load

Ridding your body of toxins can make you feel like a million bucks. Citrus oils are good for this, like tangerine and grapefruit—try adding a few drops to your water to cleanse and protect your body. These oils contain limonene, which supports many of the body’s essential tissues (including the liver) by increasing glutathione levels.

Informed Self-Care

When it comes to things you can do at home to support your health and wellbeing, you’ve already seen how many uses essential oils can have.

In addition to the oils we’ve already discussed, consider incorporating frankincense into your daily self-care regime. Among its many benefits, the frankincense oil blend can help your immune system, promote healthy activity in your joints and soft tissues, and support cell function. It’s also very calming, providing a sense of balance that can make you feel at ease all day, and is soothing and nourishing to the skin. Take it under your tongue in the morning to start your day off right.
